DID YOU KNOW?

In March 2002, NALS successfully completed the five-year reevaluation of the PLS examination as well as an evaluation of the ALS examination by the American Council on Education (ACE).  ACE had a team of content and technical experts selected from college faculty review the ALS and PLS examinations and concurred that the examinations are eligible for college-level credit recommendations.  The minimum score for awarding credit is usually 65 for each part; however, some colleges may require scores up to 70. It is possible to earn up to 27 college-level credits. Although ACE makes the recommendation, it is up to the college or university you select to make the final decision on the number of credits awarded.  They can accept some or all of the credits, depending on their policies and procedures, your course of study, and other transfer credits.  LEARN MORE AT WWW.NALS.ORG.

The Power to Change the World

Excerpt from Developing the Leaders Around You – John C. Maxwell

By: Reynetta DeVeau, PP, PLS, TSC

All the training in the world will provide only limited success if you don’t turn your people loose to do the job.  The way to do that is to give them responsibility, authority, and accountability.

For some people, responsibility is the easiest to give.  But what is difficult for some leaders is allowing their people to keep the responsibility after it’s been given.  Poor managers want to control every detail of their people’s work.  When that happens, the potential leaders who work for them become frustrated and don’t develop.  Rather than desiring more responsibility, they become indifferent or avoid responsibility altogether.

With responsibility must go authority.  Winston Churchill said in an address, “I am your servant.  You have the right to dismiss me when you please.  What you have no right to do is ask me to bear responsibility without the power of action.”

once responsibility and authority have been given to people, they become empowered to make things happen.  But we also have to be sure that they are making the right things happen.  That’s where accountability comes into the picture.

ANNUAL MEETING LEADERSHIP SESSION:  Don’t forget the Leadership Workshops we will have in Houston on Saturday!  Look at the Call for our flyer and give me a call if you have any questions.

THE KEY TO OUR FUTURE

Effective chapter marketing efforts are the foundation and a key to the success of the Texas Association of Legal Professionals. If your chapter has excelled in the area of marketing, share your successful programs and be recognized for your outstanding efforts.

The Marketing Committee would like to recognize the most exceptional marketing programs among local chapters. Entries will be judged in three chapter classifications: small (25 members or less), medium (26-50 members), and large (over 50 members).

Winners will receive an award and will be recognized at the Texas ALP Annual Meeting. The recognition won’t stop there. The award winning marketing programs will be featured in The Texas Docket.

All entries and supporting materials must be postmarked no later than April 25, 2005. Award guidelines will be included in the Annual Meeting Call. For additional information, please contact:
