ALP 50th Annual Meeting Huge Success !!
Houston ALP hosted the
Texas 50th Annual Meeting May 12-15, 2005. A great time was had
by all! The Thursday night Welcome Reception, hosted by Legal Directories
Publishing Company, featured an ice cream social and a line dance
competition. The Margarita Maniacs (El Paso) took the top honor for best
dance. The Texas Hip Hop Mommas Doing the EC Slide (Texas ALP EC) took top
honor for best name. The NALS Assisted Assistants (NALS officers) took top
honor for best costume.
Friday brought workshops,
the open forum, and the business meeting. After the business meeting, we
convened at Minute Maid Park to watch the Astros battle the Giants.
Saturday was filled with CLE, the Certification Luncheon, the President’s
Reception, and the Presidents’ Banquet. We concluded on Sunday with the
Leadership breakfast.
Houston ALP member Rita

Do the Little Things to
Maintain Momentum
Excerpt from The 17
Indisputable Laws of Teamwork – John C. Maxwell
By: Reynetta DeVeau, PP, PLS,
TSC, Leadership Committee Member
What
an awesome conference we just had!! Thanks to Houston for an outstanding
job! While reading my daily devotional for Leadership, the following
excerpt seemed especially appropriate since I always feel like we are
winning after we come back from a state conference:
When your
people are winning and morale is high, you still have an important role as a
leader. To help the team maintain high morale and momentum . . .
Keep
the team focused and on course
– If team members lose focus or get off course, then they’ll stop winning.
Communicate
successes – Nothing
boosts morale like winning and then celebrating it.
Remove
morale mashers –
Once the team is rolling in the right direction, keep it rolling. Leaders
see before others do, so they need to protect the team from the things that
will hurt the team.
Allow
other leaders to lead
– When a leader prepares other team members to lead and then turns them
loose to do it, two things result. First, it uses the existing momentum to
create new leaders for the team. It’s easier to make new leaders successful
if they are part of a successful team. Second, it increases the leadership
of the team. And that makes the team even more successful.
The process
of building high morale is simple, but it isn’t easy. It takes strong
leadership, and it takes time.

Membership
Texas ALP is bound for the
Super Bowl! If you weren't in Houston, then you missed the energetic
kick-off of the 2005-2006 membership campaign, "Super Bowl Bound."
Throughout the year, we will see each team (chapter) battling it out on the
gridiron to score the most touchdowns at the end of the year. Our plays will
be focused on retention of members, while continuing to recruit rookies (new
members) and encouraging more members to attend Texas ALP meetings.
Each team has been appointed a
liaison League Manager (membership committee member) with whom they will
work closely as they seek to score more touchdowns than any other team. Here
are the pairings:
