Winter Board Meeting
Did you know Austin was
first named Waterloo?
The first Anglo-American
settlers arrived in the area in the 1830s when Texas was still part of
Mexico.
They founded the village of Waterloo along the banks of the Colorado River.
In 1839, Waterloo was chosen to become the capital of the new
Republic of Texas,
and the town was renamed Austin in honor of Stephen F. Austin.
Make your plans now to
attend the 2006 Winter Board Meeting, February 2-5, 2006, at the Lakeway
Inn, located on the shores of beautiful Lake Travis. You can download the
registration form and schedule of events at
www.texasalp.org/calendar.htm. This meeting is one-stop shopping for
CLE, networking, and fun! Take advantage of this great opportunity. We are
offering CLE on both Friday and Saturday – a total of 7 hours.
Don’t be left out. Register now.

Decision
to Delegate
[From Developing the Leaders Around You]
By: John C. Maxwell
One of the most common mistakes a coach can make is to misjudge the level
of a player. If the leader doesn’t work with each player according to where
he is in his development, the player won’t produce, succeed, and develop.
According to management consultant Ken Blanchard, all team members fit into
one of four categories with regard to the type of leadership they need.
Players who need
direction.
These players don’t really know what to do or how to do it. You need to
instruct them every step of the way.
Players who need
coaching.
Players who are able to do more of the job on their own will become more
independent, but they still rely on you for direction and feedback.
Players who need
support.
Players able to work without your direction still may require resources and
encouragement.
Players to whom you
delegate.
At this stage, players can be given a task, and you can be confident that it
will be done. They only need you to lead. Provide them with vision on the
front end and accountability on the back end, and they will multiply your
efforts.

Give Thanks for Membership
Submitted by:
Niccole Horak, PLS, TSC
Membership Committee
November is a
time to give thanks for so many things. What are you most thankful for in
your life? Some may say children, family, work, health – whatever it is,
most people will remember to be thankful for these blessings around this
time of year.
Amongst my many
blessings, I am thankful for my membership in a tri-level organization. My
membership has helped me secure a job I enjoy, and I have grown with the
certifications and continuing education available through my affiliation
with this organization. Most importantly, I have bettered myself while
making friends and wonderful memories.
Now is the time
to thank your members for all they do. As you are aware, we are a volunteer
organization. It is always nice to feel needed - everyone can use a pat on
the back.
Some ideas on
how to thank your members may be to send a postcard thanking them for their
membership, send them a rose on their renewal date or ask them to stand at
your next meeting and be recognized.
I personally
would like to thank all of the officers, chairman, committee members and
members for all that they do to make this such a great organization!

Insight
"Happiness is to be found along the way, not at the end of the road, for
then the journey is over and it is too late. Today, this hour, this minute
is the day, the hour, the minute for each of us to sense the fact that life
is good, with all of its trials and troubles, and perhaps more interesting
because of them."
